The name Montrail, for the last decade, has become synonymous with cutting-edge outdoor footwear. For the fringe pursuit of rock climbing, Montrail learned how to integrate thermo-moldable foam into the pressure zones for a custom fit in a traditionally uncomfortable shoe genre. For everyday comfort, Montrail created a uniquely contoured, thermo-moldable sandal. Where We’ve Been

Montrail’s story begins in 1988, when the footwear brand, then known as One Sport, was resurrected by a small team of dedicated hiking enthusiasts and given the mission of creating outdoor footwear that was much more comfortable than the stiff and boxy boots that were popular at the time.

The One Sport name was changed to Montrail, Inc. on August 1, 1997. The name change coincided with the invention of the IntegraFit® technology and provided the opportunity to recast the brand image as a core outdoor brand with fit and innovative technologies as its primary selling points.

The newly branded Montrail also began building its reputation and product line for fast and light footwear for trail running. The new name and product direction more closely matched the shifting market trends and created the opportunity for distribution into international markets.

On January 26, 2006, Montrail was acquired by Columbia Sportswear Corporation.
